Worcester Radio Group attends Harbor Day at the Docks

WEST OCEAN CITY, MD – The Worcester Radio Group (K3WRG) was proud to participate in this year’s Harbor Day at the Docks, held at the West Ocean City Commercial Fishing Harbor. The event provided an outstanding opportunity to engage with the public, promote the amateur radio hobby, and introduce visitors to the many ways radio communications continue to serve communities across the country.

Throughout the day, club members operated an educational display featuring a variety of VHF, UHF, and HF radio equipment, demonstrating how amateur radio operators communicate locally, regionally, and around the world without relying on the internet or cellular networks. Visitors were able to see modern radio technology firsthand and learn about the important role amateur radio plays in emergency communications, public service, technical education, and recreation.

In addition to amateur radio, club members introduced attendees to the General Mobile Radio Service (GMRS), explaining how families, outdoor enthusiasts, and community groups can use GMRS radios for reliable communications. Hundreds of visitors stopped by the booth throughout the event, asking questions, sharing stories, and exploring opportunities to become involved in radio communications.

One of the most popular attractions at the Worcester Radio Group booth was the distribution of hundreds of yellow rubber ducks featuring the club’s website printed on the bottom. Children and adults alike were delighted to receive a duck, along with candy, brochures, and informational flyers about amateur radio and the club’s activities.

“The response from the public exceeded our expectations,” said club members following the event.

“We met hundreds of people, answered countless questions, and introduced many families to the exciting world of amateur radio. Events like Harbor Day help us connect with the community and inspire the next generation of radio operators.”

The Worcester Radio Group extends its sincere appreciation to the volunteers who made the event a success:

  • Brian Wallace (K3UCQ)
  • Chris Ranck (K3DCR)
  • Walker Ranck (KC3RAP)
  • Mark Wolinsky (K3MHW)
  • Michael Winnaker (KC3YAT)
  • Arthur Parks (N3EAK)
  • Club President Mark Shaw (K3WOC)

Their dedication and enthusiasm helped create an informative and welcoming experience for visitors of all ages.

Following the tremendous success of Harbor Day at the Docks, the Worcester Radio Group is looking forward to participating in additional community events throughout the region. Outreach opportunities like these allow the club to fulfill its mission of promoting amateur radio knowledge, community engagement, and emergency preparedness.
